AI Tools to Ensure Accessibility in the Classroom
AI is great in Education- but are your lessons accessible?
Here are some great steps to ensure accessibility and the AI tools to help you.
I know you’re excited by integrating AI into your daily lives, jobs and curriculum but I want to take a moment to keep us centered on some of the best practices for teaching by keeping our students are the heart of what we do.
Remember, the most effective way of teaching in this modern world will be a hybrid of AI implementation and your expertise of learning and education.
The best lessons are the ones that are able to reach as many students as possible. While playing around with AI integration, you must ensure that your lessons are accessible for students with disabilities, come from diverse backgrounds and are sensitive to your students' access to resources and their needs.
Here are some best practices to keep in mind when designing your lessons:
🌟 Know your audience: what is their motivation to learn, background, needs and abilities or special accommodations they may need. Remember YOU know your students best.
🌟 Use clear language: write your lesson using plain and concise language. Meet the students where they are. (Diffit for Teachers is a great AI tool that can help with this)
🌟 Organize Content Clearly & Create “Digestible Chunks” of Learning Material: Headings, bullet points, numbered lists (Canva is pretty legit)
🌟 Provide Transcripts for Audio & Video: Many students would benefit from having access to a transcript of video or audio. (Nolej AI can do this in minutes with just about any audio/video input)
🌟 Offer Supplementary Resources: Provide resources or supplementary materials for students who may need the support or need additional enrichment. (Both MagicSchoolAI and Twee are great options for this)
There are more of course, but I don’t want to overwhelm you.
I just want you to 👏 get 👏 started.
